One Night In Space presents the complete concert Tangerine Dream performed in the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Germany on October 7th, 2007. Originally, this event had been announced as a cooperation between TD and Terry Riley, but the famous composer and pianist had to call off due to health problems unfortunately. Tangerine Dream played a set of compositions from their current albums (including two previously unreleased tracks), interspersed with some 'classics' from the 80s and 90s.
This release should not be confused with the namesake single release One Night In Space that was issued as a limited edition on occasion of this event and was sold on that night for the first time.
The single DVD features the complete concert, including the four encores. It comes with a four page insert featuring photos of the line-up (with a focus on the female band members), credits and the track listing.
The animated menu provides the options to play the complete concert as well as to start from individual tracks, to view the credits and a nine minute bonus backstage featurette, and to do the audio setup (AC3 stereo or Dolby Surround 5.1).
Please note that the DVD itself is indexed wrongly: the first two compositions are indexed as one track only, while the long track Bells Of Accra is split into two indices. Hence, all tracks inbetween are shifted by one. This mistake should be considered when selecting single tracks via the menu or directly by entering the track number. Only the encores are indexed correctly. The track listing above shows the running times and indices as they should be.
Regarding the initial Eastgate DVD release, neither DVD nor the paper inserts show any order number or barcode, but the number given below is the order number the Eastgate Music Shop lists this release.
In December 2007 the concert's audio soundtrack became available as MP3 download at the Tangerine Dream Download Shop. It has not been released on a proper CD yet.
In March 2009 the DVD was re-released with different cover design as part of an extensive digipack series (consisting of a total of more than 60 CD and DVD releases) by the Germany based Membran record label.
In May 2011 Membran released the concert on BluRay. Together with The London Eye Concert, this has been the very first Tangerine Dream release on this high-resolution digital medium.
