Mona da Vinci is the fifth release of the so-called 'cupdisc' series. Unlike the previous releases this album comes with a regular jewel-case instead of a simple cardboard sleeve. The inner side of the 2-page cover shows the current TD live line-up including Thorsten Quaeschning, Linda Spa, Iris Camaa and Bernhard Beibl, though apparently none of them was involved in this recording at all. The inner back insert shows a Zoom-O-Graphic by Edgar Froese featuring the faces of all band members combined with parts of animals -- so Edgar Froese is posing as a tiger while Thorsten Quaeschning has the horns of a capricorn glued to his forehead.
The album consists of six tracks composed by Edgar Froese that so far had been officially unreleased in this form. Apparently, the title track had been previously provided on the TDOC (Tangerine Dream Online Club) as preview of the then forthcoming album The Endless Season but did not make it to that album. Phantoms And Oracles on the other hand is merely an alternate version of the track Midas Touch that was released on The Hollywood Years Vol. 2 in 1998. Given the fact that Zlatko Perica is playing the guitar solo on the version released on Mona da Vinci it is most probably that this recording originates from the same period.
Only a few days after the CD release this album became available as MP3 download at the Tangerine Dream Download Shop as well.
